Metacritical Self-Statement
My writing process and editing skills have grown. I have learned that web writing needs more than just words, sentences, and paragraphs on paper. It needs to include photos, files, web links, bulleted information, headings, colors, and more. It needs to be eye-catching and pretty to look at, so that people are interested in the website to begin with.
Informal writing can be a part of this process as well. Which is interesting because most professors do not want that in their course for their assignments. The assignments need to be organized and with complete thoughts that follow like flowers in the wind.
Adding effects to photos or words can help with the eye-catching. In my writing sample, I added a green glow effect that helped it stand out better. It gives it more feeling and emotions. Helps the reader understand how the effects could play a part in the story to come.
My writing process is not well planned like it should be. I work better under pressure for some reason. If I am working on a creative writing assignment, then I will finish it in one sitting. Cause once I start the thoughts and ideas just keep following and I keep writing. I can edit it later once done. Sometimes once I start editing, I will adjust my story. I do not always do so, but sometimes I will think of something that I want to change.
I won’t edit my writing until the end. Sometimes I will read it out loud to see if it sounds right. Sometimes I read it to another person when I cannot decide to keep a phrase or if it needs to be re-phrased. Then I will format and edit the spelling as well once finished writing because if I do it as I go, then I can lose thoughts on how I want the story to unravel.
Informal Review of Own Website
This website, Fantasy Fan Fiction, has a few flaws. One being the blog posts are not formally “blog posts”. The posts do not have dates and times that it was posted. The website does need to have more of a background. Whether it is color or images. It does need to be added. I want it to be fantasy related, but I am not sure how I want to do it. It is a work in progress.
In module three, I would like to challenge myself more with writing for the web content. The introduction video was a new concept for me to complete. I used Microsoft Clipchamp to create and edit the introduction video. It allowed me to have a background, music, images, and my own recording to be added into one video.
I would like to be able to learn more and try different apps to create content for this website or other projects. Learning more about how I can create content for website usage can help me learn how to work certain apps. Which can become helpful in future usages. Rather it is for a class or a future job.
Learning how to chunk information and bullet point other information to keep length down is a new concept to learn for web writing. I personally have not done a lot of web writing and posting information. Most English classes want essays with citations for novels, websites, or academic articles. Learning these concepts and skills from the class, teacher, and readings can help improve my writing skills.

Introduction
In general, this site is well done with the topic presented for the viewers. It is a specific topic about K-pop dramas that most people know or even watch on streaming services. There are a few things that could be improved on.
Overall Impression
I think the website is set up well. It has all the requirements that are needed so far besides a few clear links to other pages on the website. I hope the administrator adds more information to the site since there are not many blog posts so far. More can be added. It does need more content, but there is a lot of information on the site already. Having more content can help get more viewers to visit the website. The site is easily functionable, but does have some confusing aspects to it. The style is telling of a single author use for the site.
Specific Strengths and Loci of Improvement
- Good understanding
- The photo on the home page tells viewers what this website is about without having to read much more into it. The photo is its own opening statement.
- I think having that on every post could help viewers engage with the topics that are post of the blog post. It shows initiative from the website owner or designer.
- Website navigation
- There are two navigation bars on the website which are located at the top of the website and in the middle of the website. It looks a little confusing and I would suggest only having one.
- More scrolling
- With the extra navigation bar and the photo from the home page staying on top of every page a viewer clicks on causing them to have to scroll down the web page more. Which can be tedious to some people and cause them to leave the site.
Conclusions, Affirmations, and Recommendations
One recommendation that I have for this website is name the television show or film that the homepage photo is from. It looks interesting, but it does not tell viewers where this scene is from. The two improvement suggestions could help the website function better for viewers. Having one navigation bar and less scrolling makes a website more interesting because people is not looking for the information on the web page they clicked one to find said information.
There is no links that link to other pages on this website. The script for the introduction video only has three quotation marks at the beginning, then there are none at the end. I would add them to the rest of the script or just remove the three from the beginning of the script.
The “Like Thriller Series” page could be formatted differently because the paragraphs of information start on the right side of the photos. It took me a minute to realize that the information was there, but to the right of the photo. It is not easily readable for viewers.
There are small improvements that can be made for this website, but it is still a functioning website with clear language and visuals. Using the “Usability Test” on the https://digital.gov/topics/usability/ website can help show what concepts still need improvement. “Chunking information” could help with long paragraphs in some of the sections. Which https://pantera.fiu.edu/content/writing-for-the-web/ tells more about how to chunk information.
Metacritical Assessment Part 3
My writing and editing process continues to change as I keep learning things. From learning how posts and linking posts to social media accounts helps to market for the website that is newer than others. Linking pages from the website to post to social media can be time consuming, so patience is key and thinking it will help your website grow viewers.
Reading the article “SEO Editing via this article at I Mean Marketing”, has helped me understand more about online web writing. SEO editing can be important to get attention from readers, so that they do read the article or information posted on the website.
SEO keywords is an important tool in web writing. Which I did not know much about before this class and the last few weeks. I have added SEO keywords in some of my works on this website. My newest chapter in my story, which is on my story page, has some of those SEO keywords in it.
It was fun to add those words into my story, but it did take some thought to do so. I hope to continue this knowledge for future projects and future careers in my life.
Another article I found to be helpful with my editing skills was “How to Self-Edit: 10 Tips for Editing Your Own Writing”. Reading this article helped me understand how important it is to go back and re-read and edit my work.
Just because I published some writing does not mean that there are no grammar errors. I learned I can always go back and edit my work. That I need to always go back and edit my work.
Chapter three of my story is more SEO friendly than other chapters. It was hard to go back and add certain words into my writing. It is a skill that I will continue to try and learn from.
